11 Plus Foundation Course
Children are welcome to begin 11 Plus tuition in Year 3 or 4 in our Foundation Course, where we will begin by enhancing their general educational ability rather than starting with 11+ exam techniques straight away.
English and Maths
Our 11 plus foundation course is specifically aimed at children who would benefit from making their everyday Maths and English more secure and also in getting a head start in the 11 Plus curriculum.
The course aims to build a solid foundation in English and Maths, while also introducing ’11 Plus’ questions styles and language in Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning, which will help pupils when they start the 11 Plus course in September of Year 5.
Teaching in Small Groups
The sessions last one and a quarter hours per week and the teaching is in small groups. The groups are differentiated according to ability and it is highly recommended that you come to the correct group for your child.
We will advise you which group is best for your child after the initial assessment. The syllabus depends on the needs of the pupil and will be slightly different each year.
Previous pupils have found that they start the 11 Plus course in September of Year 5 with greater confidence in their abilities after having attended the 11 Plus Foundation Course.
Homework
We set weekly homework so that the children can consolidate the skills and knowledge gained from each lesson.
It also gives them the chance to work independently and to cover more content.
Homework is important but shouldn’t become burdensome.
Homework should always be returned the next week as the first part of the lesson will be going through the homework from the previous week.
Year 4 11+ Mock Exams
Attending a mock exam at the end of Year 4 can be really helpful for you and your child to get ahead in the 11 Plus!
The experience will introduce your child to the exam room setting as well as help to establish how much work needs to be done over the coming year.
It will also highlight strengths and areas for improvement. By doing the exam a year early, you will have lots of time to work on any weaknesses.

Foundation Course Tuition Pricing FAQ
- All group tuition sessions for Year 4 – Year 9 last for 1 hour 15 minutes. The cost is £27.
- For younger children in Year 3: These group tuition sessions last for one hour and the cost is £25. These shorter sessions are reserved for younger children due to their concentration levels.
- One to one sessions last for one hour and the cost is £40. One to one sessions are reserved for GCSE and A-Level students only.
There are no registration fees. Simply pay as you go.
Notice must be given for missed sessions. Any sessions missed can be caught up at other available times in the week. If this is not practical, then there is a charge of half price for the missed lesson and the work must be picked up and completed in time for the next lesson. It is the duty and responsibility of both parent(s) and pupil to ensure attendance.

Yes, they are. Richard holds a Masters degree in education from Birmingham University and taught in mainstream schools for over twenty years. He is also an ex-examiner for Key Stage 2 tests and has over twenty years’ experience at private tuition.
Mike holds a maths degree from Warwick University and was Head of Mathematics at a local secondary school for twenty-five years and has been a marker for many GCSE and A-Level examination boards.
Amy qualified as a teacher from Leeds University in 2012. She has over fifteen years of experience of working in several schools in both the primary and secondary sectors. She currently works at a local grammar school in Sutton Coldfield as well as her tutor role at Sutton Tutorials.
Between the three of us, we have over eighty years of teaching experience!
